Product Description:
A mall becomes madly magical as Sabrina seeks to vanquish her archenemy Gemini (Gem) Stone. Gem has purloined Sabrina's magic wish amulet, and is using it to wreak havoc on the Greendale Mall. It's up to Sabrina to save the day, with help from her dry-humored black cat, Salem, and some spells that are guaranteed to get laughs. Sabrina must find four magic objects in the mall to get her amulet back, and in order to find them, she must successfully complete four games: Pyramid Power, Smoothie Fallout, Fashion Bug Out, and Bad Hair Day. Finding the objects produces a fifth game, Sheep Charade, and its completion restores order and peaceful shopping to the mall. This program has some of the sly wit that has become a Sabrina trademark: Gem transforms mall shoppers into sheep, Sabrina consults with a Spookie Jar before embarking on her mission, and Salem gets his share of bad puns into the dialogue. ("You're a baaaaaad girl, Gemini Stone" he comments, when he discovers her turning shoppers into sheep.) Casting spells adds an extra dimension to all five games--Sabrina doesn't need to merely outrun the evil spiders in Pyramid Power; she can choose to tie them up with ribbon, or zap them with a boogie spell that makes them disco harmlessly away. There are three levels of play, and the games are fairly complex. Sabrina's clever spells deserve to be executed well. Unfortunately, this CD-ROM lacks magic in the graphics and operating departments. Sabrina's movement through her world is jerky and abrupt, and designers didn't exploit the potential for special effects that the magical storyline suggests. Also, the program uses the arrow keys, the space bar, the enter key and the mouse, which adds to the games' clunky feeling. But fans of Sabrina: The Animated Series will probably forgive the lapse, as this CD-ROM provides a mall-load of sassy, spellbinding entertainment. (Ages 5 to 9) --Anne Erickson
