For everything to occur in one day, it is definitely a fulfilled movie, 2008-09-18
At first I only saw "Miss Pettigrew" and as I was watching it I noticed its only been a day,but its actually "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day " though I really enjoyed watching everything. Its a wonderful movie. The title suits it well. My only disappointment is that it is only one day where all the events take place, but that is a good thing because it is different from typical movies. I definitely recommend this movie.

Not everything comes along just when we want it. There are times when decisions just have to be made., 2008-09-15
Miss. Pettigrew lives for a day, is the adorable tale of Guinevere Pettigrew(Frances McDormand) a down on her luck nanny, just fired from a not-so-satisfied client; who finds a friend and patron in Delysia(Amy Adams) an aspiring singer with her hands full of both drama and men.

After a well timed makeover(because she couldn't go around looking like Oliver Twists' mother), Delysia hires Miss. Pettigrew as a social secretary in order to help her decide what man, and what life path perhaps, may be the most suitable for a woman in her situation.

Both Amy Adams and Frances McDormand are simply delightful, not to mention Lee Pace is adorable as Michael; one of Delysia's three suitors.

Not the most creative idea, but a well written and in hand, well acted film.

If you enjoy a wonderful romance, beautiful 1930s accoutrements and a charming, happy ending you will love Miss Pettigrew lives for a day.

"Strong, Confident, Firm" ~ A Day "Fraught With Moral Complexity", 2008-09-15
Synopsis: Miss Pettigrew (Frances McDormand) has just been fired from her governess position and has been put out on the streets without her last weeks wages. With a history of lost jobs on record she is denied help from her employment agency and finds herself facing a life of poverty and soup kitchens. In desperation she steals a business card from the agency with the address of a possible employer. As luck would have it she becomes the social secretary of an aspiring young actress (Amy Adams) living a life "fraught with moral complexity" which Miss Pettigrew appears destined to sort out. Will she stand "strong, confident, firm" against the shallow, libertine world which she has entered or will she carve out a new life on her own terms?

Critique: First things first, yes this is most definitely a `chic flick' so gentlemen be warned. Set in '39 in London we find ourselves involved in the trivial pursuits of the artistic and social elite; elegant fashion shows, upscale clothing salons and extravagant parties are the canvas upon which the story unfolds. As you might expect this new environment is fraught with all the vices and evils that come with too much money and shallow, self-absorbed lifestyles. It's one of those confrontations between the shallowness of the upper crust and the street wisdom of the working class. There's really nothing original here but it's done well, the dialogue is lively and the storyline is well paced.

Bottom Line: If you enjoy hobnobbing with the rich and famous, 30's clothing and art deco furnishings this is the film for you. My rating: -3 1/2 Stars-.

    A Great Little Movie, 2008-09-13
"Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" is a great little movie. It captures the uncertainty of life brought into focus by an uncertain time--in this case the outbreak of WWII in London. Amy Adams and Frances McDormand are both fantastic, and you'll find yourself wishing there was just a little bit more of this movie when it reaches its end.

Miss Pettigrew is a down on her luck nanny who ends up being the "social secretary" to Adam's Delysia. A hilarious and action packed day ensues, in which each woman finds her way out of the fog in her life.

An excellent film for anyone who enjoys period pieces or Adams/McDormand's work.

    A little delight..., 2008-09-11
This is a delightful little feel-good movie -- excellent for a rainy afternoon. Amy Adams (Delysia) glows and Frances McDormand lights up the screen in her own way making Miss Pettigrew someone you'd like to have as a friend. Miss Pettigrew uses her wisdom and experience to guide her employer through a variety of ticklish situations. As Miss Pettigrew helps Delysia straighten out her life, she stumbles over what she's been missing for many years -- love. Never fear -- there's a happy ending for them both.
