It's pretty good, but lots of bugs, 2008-08-25
I didn't feel as though I had any choice in buying this software. I don't see a lot of other programs that offer the same capabilities in bookkeeping and payroll. But I can't say I am all that thrilled with it. In particular, I keep getting weird pop up windows saying windows is compacting the message store, whatever that means. There are a few other weird bugs too, like it crashes when trying to save as PDF or export to email.

It does what it is supposed to, but the learning curve is such that I have needed a lot of training on the program with my accountant, even though I am proficient at using many programs and have built my own websites. The support isn't the best, either.

So I give it a lukewarm 4 stars. I'd certainly buy it again, but if there was an alternative that did the same things - I'd buy that instead. I don't like all these ridiculous bugs.

    Quick-Books Pro 2008, 2008-07-08
I have been extremely disappointed with the new version of Quick-Books Pro 2008 w/payroll. Initially I had problems installing the tax tables due to the firewall protection from Windows XP and had to call for tech support. I was on the phone with a tech from the Phillipines for over 1 1/2 hrs. to make sure the tax tables downloaded correctly. I ordered the disc so I wouldn't have to rely on downloading a chip but due to the constant changes that Quickbooks makes it is not possible to get a current version of the tax tables so it is always necessary to download. The first time I did payroll I discovered that it did not calculate the medicare tax for each employee and then when I did my quarterly 941tax report I had to try to manually correct the totals. I did an accountants backup to give to my accountant and the program would not allow me to make any entries after the backup date so I have not been able to make any corrections to the payroll until I receive the changes back from my accountant, I had always been able to do the changes in the older version. I have been a Quick Books user for over 20 yrs. and I feel that I know the program very well but I was forced to have to update my older version when the payroll features were no longer compatable with my 2004 version. For the price and the fact that they force you to have to purchase the payroll tax tables annually I would not recommend this accounting software to new users.
