Beware the Hidden Fees, 2008-04-14
This marks my tenth year of using TurboTax products for filing my federal and state taxes. TurboTax continues to put out an excellent and user-friendly program, and this year was no different. Although it was the first year I had to file for a business, it was just as easy as doing a personal return.
My one (and continuing complaint) is that TurboTax continues to charge for e-filing. In previous years, you could get a rebate for that. TurboTax did away with the rebates a couple of years ago, claiming that most users either didn't file for the rebate or found the rebate requirements too difficult to understand/comply with. Now this year, the fee for e-filing is $17.95, up from $9.95 last year. To me, that's unreasonable. Not only are there other filing avenues that are free, but the increase in TurboTax's fee is almost 100%! And the fee is hidden until you actually get to the point of filing in the program! Its not disclosed anywhere on the product's box, in the literature, or in advertising. Currently, there is a bill being debated in the Senate, spnsored by Sens. Schumer and Akaka, that would make all e-filing free. I hope it passes.
I will continue to use TurboTax in spite of the e-filing fee. But having that fee, and not disclosing it anywhere on the outside of the box, keeps the product from gettin 5 stars. I give it 3.5 stars - minus 1 star for the outrageous e-file fee and minus one-half star for hiding it until its time to actually e-file the return.
 Superb Tax Product, 2008-04-14
Having just moved out of my house I picked this up to handle my W-2 and my "small business" requirements. When I finished, I sent the forms to my parents' tax guy and he came up with the same exact numbers. He didn't charge since he needed my info for their taxes anyway but it's good to know that this is at the very least as good as a normal tax preparer and at a fraction of the cost.

I've been using turbotax for at least eight years now. It's all about giving your fair share. At least I got a great deal on this.
Ditch Your CPA, 2008-04-08
Have used TurboTax Home & Business for a few years after discovering that my CPA was using this software while me charging $1,500 prepare my return. Ergo, I jettisoned the CPA and used this software myself. A bargain given the savings over a CPA.
Turbo Tax, 2008-04-07
Turbo Tax is a very good, easy to use product. I had used it for several years, then decided to use a CPA. After two years with the CPA, I am back to using Turbo Tax. I feel Turbo Tax answers my questions more thoroughly and I understand what I am sending to the IRS better than with the CPA.
