too buggy to perform even the most basic tasks, 2008-02-16 I was very satisfied with Acronis True Image 8.0, so when I got a new PC with Vista on it, I purchased an upgrade to Version 11. This turned out to be wasted money. I made a "data backup", backing up my documents folder but as often as I tried it, the process got hung at somewhere between 19% and 30% complete. The program could not even be terminated by clicking cancel or quit, I had to use the task manager. A few helpful people in the support forums told me this was a well-documented bug in this version and I should turn off the compression to make it work. I did just that and when after several hours my backup was finished, I checked what was inside the archive, only to find out that it had backed up all data files in all folders on my hard disks, except those in the c:\users subtree (where of course my documents are located). Thinking that I had unwittingly messed up the folder-selection process, I tried anew with precisely the same results. This software backs up anything it wants, but not the folders I want. Having lost faith to entrust True Image 11 my valuable data, I asked for a refund within 24h of purchasing it, but was told this was impossible, since I opened the product (even though it was a download from Acronis' website). Out of "good will" they would give me the refund, but only if technical support could not solve these problems. The support line coming at a steep fee and me not wanting to throw good money and time after bad money and time, I gave up at this point. Acronis clearly lives off the trust they built in prior years.

WHAT A DELIGHT - FINALLY A PACKAGE THAT DOES IT ALL!, 2008-02-14 A quick note to say what a delight it is to finally be out from under Norton Nightmares. True Image installs like it should, runs like a top and offers all the features you would ever need for backup and imaging. Also, it works like a charm on both ATA, SATA and external USB connected drives.
Very Good Software, 2008-02-13 I installed this on my HP laptop and it will back up my entire computer from one hard drive to the other every night automatically. I love a feature it has that lets you try something and roll the computer back if it didnt turn out the way you wanted. I use it to install any new software or drivers, if it is good I tell it to keep it and if it is not as expected, the software will put it back exactely as it was before you started. I like it better than the norton ghost that I used before, works great on my new computer with Vista where my older version of ghost would not.

Acronis 11 - peace of mind, 2008-02-10 I was a little disappointed that initial setup of Acronis 11 was not exactly intuitive, requiring some trial and error. However, once set up, I find that the program works well and reliably, and gives me peace of mind knowing that my vital data is located in more than one location, and is easily retrievable. Use of this program requires moderate computer literacy.

Not a comprehensive solution. Poor support., 2008-02-09 The software does a decent job of backing up data and imaging disks. However, in my case, I bought it for its advertised Startup Recovery Manager which is supposed to allow you to restore your PC's system state in the event its startup files get corrupted. Unfortunately, it did not work as advertised. When I contacted tech support about this issue by email, I received the following response:
"Please note that it's not possible to restore system state backup that way. In order to restore it, you need to run Acronis True Image 11 Home in Windows Environment, then choose this backup archive from Acronis Secure Zone and proceed with restoration."
If I could start my PC in a Windows environment, I wouldn't need to restore the system state, now would I? Acronis Tech support appears to be staffed by a bunch of leftover Soviet bureaucrats who just don't get the job done.
The Secure Zone and Startup Recovery Manager flat don't work on my PC - even though Acronis says the software is compatible with Windows 2000. I spent hours testing it today. The worst news is that in a couple of instances, Startup Recovery Manager says it completed restoration of test files, when in fact, it did not. So, if you're going to rely on this product to recover your data, you'd better test it thoroughly before you actually need it.
If you just need disk imaging and data backup, this software will probably be OK. If you're looking for a comprehensive PC data recovery solution, you'll be better off looking somewhere else!
