ActionTec MegaPlug Wireless Network Extender, 2008-11-11 I purchased this product because my service provider (Verizon FIOS) provided a ActionTec router as part the service. I do not believe it will work with other (non-ActionTec routers).
Warning! You will need a plug adapter as well! I ordered the network extender (standalone) and then figured out I would need the plug adapter as well. So there are three pieces of hardware in my home "infrastructure": 1) ActionTec router (provided to me by Verizon) 2) ActionTec plug adapter 3) ActionTec MP wireless extender
That said, it worked out of the box with no configuration required, just plugged it into a wall outlet and it worked. Two things: 1) I have since learned that it worked because my wall outlet was serviced by the same row of circuit breakers (in my breaker-box) as the router. If your home has two rows of circuit breakers, or two breaker boxes (some do), the signal (traveling through the wires) will nor cross breaker rows, or breaker boxes. 2) The extender initally sets up a seperate wireless network: seperate SSID and un-secured.
I use WPA security, so I took the extra step to add WPA security. To do this, you have to have the router configuration CD that came with the router (not the one shipped with the extender). This may be available as a download it you have lost the CD that came with the router - not sure.
Once I found the original router CD, setting up security was very simple. The router detected the extender and allowed me to set up WPA security in a couple of easy steps.
I very highly recommend this to anyone who already has, or is getting, and ActionTec router.
Useless unless you also order MegaPlug 85Mbps Ethernet Adapter along with it, 2008-10-08 In order to use this item, you have to have the associated Actiontec Ethernet Adapter (Part Number HPE100T) to plug into your router. This is necessary to communicate with the Extender. It would have been nice to know that when I bought this. It is basically impossible to find the ethernet adapter by itself, so I will have to return this extender.

Seamless addition to existing megaplug devices..., 2008-03-05 I started with two wired Megaplug adapters that work perfectly from one end of the house to the other. As with those, adding this wireless adapter was very easy. A little more configuration was required to set up wireless security and a static IP (not required, just my preference), but that was the worst of it. Since it has an IP address, it also includes an http interface for management, making dynamic configuration a breeze. While the wireless adapter is priced a little higher than the average WAP or wireless range expander, its simple integration and reliablility make it a better value in my opinion. I couldn't ask for more.

No interoperability..., 2008-01-02 I have an existing powerline network based on Linksys PLE200 adaptors...which work very well and are easy to setup, btw. I attempted to extend a wireless node using the Megaplug extender, but it won't work with a Linksys unit (or any other) on the router/powerline end. From Actiontec support:

Bummer!
I assumed interoperability as one would find with wifi or standard wired networks.
Guess not...
Be aware, Beware...
