    Dont believe the hype, 2007-12-13
Sure, this game has all the tech to make it one of the best looking games on the market. The problem is no computer can run it. The graphics are just not optimized as well as they could be. My comp can run games like Call of Duty 4 smooth and the difference in appearance is amazing.
Gameplay is fun for the first 2/3 of the game and the ability to put attachments on weapons is a cool feature. The storyline however drags on and like most fps, is very weak.

Sure this game may be a breakthrough in technology, however its just not that fun to play. Graphics does not equal good gameplay

Crysis has flaws, but is extremely compelling., 2007-12-13
Looking back at playing Crysis, having beaten it twice since I bought it, I have my criticisms of the game.

However, the first time I played it, I was completely hooked. I didn't want to stop. I think it had to do with the nano-suit functions, I loved using them. The second time through was just as fun, and I tried out a whole different set of ideas for nearly the whole game, just because the nano-suit functions can alter the gameplay enough to change the whole strategy for a level. Also, the on the fly weapon customization was VERY cool and handy. By leaving the suit on armor and leaving the guns un-modded or by just equipping your favorite sight on each weapon you can make the game just like any other, however, this would certainly be a huge waste. The graphics are excellent. I fiddled with my settings a few times, just to see what happens, and on low they aren't fantastic, however, on High or Very High, the game is quite spectacular. I could do without the motion blur, I don't really think it looks cool, it is actually slightly disorienting at first, at least for me. It also detracts from the gameplay, because it makes it much more difficult to turn quickly and shoot accurately. It does add difficulty to the game, and I do enjoy a challenge, so after cursing it for a few minutes, I embraced the challenge.

A list about the things I didn't like about the game. (besides the motion blur)

    1. The DVD (and this could just be my copy) makes a terrible sound in my drive. It also seems to take a long time to load the DVD menu. However, the actual functions in the menu work fine, and it has never locked up or crashed my machine.

    2. The game needs to be longer. I only got the rushed out to stores feeling when playing the final level on the aircraft carrier, when I encountered a few random bugs that I couldn't repeat.

    3. For the most part, I dislike FPS levels where I'm in a vehicle. This has been true of the COD games, Hidden and Dangerous games (fantastic games, once patched), Medal of Honor series, and so on. Controllable vehicles where I can jump in and out at will can (and have) been a great asset to a game. I digress slightly, my main point here being that the VTOL level is terrible. The controls are awful and mushy, and I frequently crashed. However, I stuck with it, and after I adjusted to the controls, I rarely crashed. It is still very tough to complete the mission because you have to shoot things that are zipping around you.

    4. I wanted more weapons to use. Farcry had many weapons, and while I'd say that most of them were similar (it had 5 or 6 automatic weapons, and two had grenade launchers and zoom sights) but they still had their purpose, and they sort of 'upgraded' as you went through the game. In Crysis, you never really get 'better' weapons. The FY71 and the SCAR are what I've been using the whole time for nearly every level. The gauss rifle didn't do it for me, I liked the precision rifle better, but that could be my imagination. Maybe the weapon fittings I liked so much should account for *some* of the lack of weapons, but I still would have liked a few more weapons.

Having said all that stuff makes it seem like you shouldn't buy the game, but like I said at the beginning, it has problems, but I was STILL compelled to play this game. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep, so I played this game for another couple of hours. I am definitely a gamer, and have spent many nights up late (much too late sometimes) but that has NEVER happened to me before.

How do you fix it, 2007-12-13
Have loaded game about 6 times and have yet to get it to load properly, game support has no info as to why

    Crysis/PC, 2007-12-12
An awesome rendition to be compared to X-Box's Halo, but better.
An eerie, suspenseful storyline with all the action of a Hollywood movie.
I spent hours playing this game because I couldn't peel myself from the action. the only downside is, you run out of ammo way too fast.
I recommend for anyone who wants to open up a can of... well, you know. The multiplayer is excellent, with all the vehicles and specials.

Beautiful graphics, but buggy with lackluster gameplay., 2007-12-12
I was pretty excited about getting this game after reading the near-advertisement like review in PC Gamer magazine. I've got a speedy new gaming system and I thought this was the perfect game to christen it with.

    The good:
The environment is gorgeous. The graphical immersion is second to none, with relatively dynamic interaction to boot. Trees and branches get mowed down like the mini-gun scene from "Predator". You can pick up random objects and toss them about, causing wanton damage to enemies and innocent wooden boxes alike. The suit powers are well balanced and don't turn you into a one man wrecking ball. You still need to be intelligent in your approach to achieving objectives.

    The bad:
Where to start? The "open ended" aspect is relatively bogus as objective assignment is still linear and impassable canyon walls dispel the illusion of an ability to freely roam all parts of the island.
Weapons are problematic. Artificial range limitations seem to have been placed on weapons - I spent 90 useless rounds from my assualt rifle sniping away at a distant soldier who was going through the body language of being "hit", yet I was unable to take him down. Limit weapon range with real physics, not mysteriously disintegrating bullets. Even on normal difficulty, it can take 4 or more hits to take out a NK soldier. Headshots aren't even a surefire solution. It takes away the suspension of disbelief when your assualt rifle feels like a pea shooter. I would have much preferred a difficulty formula that heavily favored better "AI" (which, as far as I could tell, amounted to an enemy's disposition to take cover and jump on empty machine gun nests) and better enemy aim/reaction time.
I've discovered a lot of bugs. Things like enemy soldiers floating in the air after I've blown up their observation towers, invincible bad guys that require a restart of the game to fix, and enemies running around clutching invisible weapons.
The story line is a lot skimpier than it could be. Good sci-fi usually means a lot of imaginative bits creating a believable "universe"; this game falls somewhat short of that, relying on brief cutscenes with your next waypoint as a takeaway (isn't it time that optional story content be included in these games?). Character development...well, let's just say it's super hammy, with names like "Psycho" and "Jester" and a ridiculous caricature of a Marine Corps officer (having been a Marine myself, I get to pass judgement here).

I'll caveat this by saying I haven't completed the game yet (I'm slowly progressing, having to convince myself it's worth sitting down to play yet another level). I estimate I'm a little more than halfway through, so take that for what it's worth.

Oh, and I'll probably be cancelling my PC Gamer subscription... ;)
