Pro Features at an amateur's price, 2007-07-29
I have used previous versions of Magix Movie Edit Pro as well as the latest version (12) and have been very pleased with the extensive capabilities of it, with such features as video image adjustment, time stretching/shrinking, picture-in-picture, resizing, and now high def video (HDV). And it handles the entire process, with extensive editing as well as well designed DVD design and burning. The audio editing capabilities even include noise sample reduction (got a noisy camcorder?--take the noise recorded by the camcorder when there is no external sound and use it as the noise print of the camera, which you can then use to cancel most of the camera noise). The audio editing features are quite extensive, which, in a way, isn't surprising since Magix also authors and sells the Samplitude professional audio editing software.

Add to this free email support and a price that's too low to believe and it's a definite winner.

One thing to note is that if you are working with HD source video, you will need a very powerful system for the actual editing in HD, since HD is so demanding (no matter what editing software you are using).

    Stay away from it, 2007-07-14
This is a horrible product. After installation there were several features missing. After installing a web update previously available features disappeared. Online support sent email with a check system program. I spent 5 hours with it, it caused my system to crash 5 times (which interestingly enough they tell you will happen). At the end of the system check there was supposed to be an email feature that sends the report to them. Not suprisingly it did not work. As mentioned in a previous review the burn feature is impossible to figure out. I managed to burn one DVD and the quality was way below par.
    Don't waste your money.

Very Pleased Overall; goodbye Adobe, 2007-06-09
The software has been a very pleasant surprise, especially after I had to abandon Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 for too many reasons to mention here.
The learning curve was not too steep with Magix Pro 12. After about 1 day of testing and experimenting, I had most of the program down.
PROS: Very easy to import pics, videos, music, etc
Great transitions, titles, and special effects
Fairly easy to use; very intuitive
Burned my DVD's easily, although you MUST download the patch from the MAGIX website. It's very easy to do, but must be done or you will have trouble burning discs.
CONS: When trying to insert a pic/video in between other pics/videos, the program does not automatically make room for the new image.
Overall, a great program at a relatively low price.

Better than most but still not quite there, 2007-05-30
This is the fourth movie editing package that I have tried (Premiere Elements, Pinnacle, Videowave) and I would have to say it is the best by a fair margin, especially with regard to the features offered, that actually work. So far the package has proved robust to import, edit and export. Quality of the video handling software seems impressive. The package is more complex and less intuitive than others, but is more rewarding when you finally work out the way forward. The price is exceptional when you look at the depth of features.

Unfortunately the program let itself down for me when it came to burning disks. In this respect the program is so useless, I am not convinced there is actually any code behind those burn buttons. I used several different export file formats and burn modes and without fail, the process failed, in a variety of different ways mind you to keep me amused but not one success. I think the only code under the burn option is a make believe timer/progress bar to make you think it is beavering away writing data to disk, when in fact the process dozes off into hibernation....anyway, I just used a 3rd party package for burning and I am away...so am basically happy with the product with this work around.

    Misleading, 2007-05-22
I saw this on their website and was particularly interested in the convert to Flash movie they mentioned. It isn't until you get the program and realize the manual doesn't even mention the word Flash and contact their support that you find out you have to sign up for their service (which is free, but) and upload your video. Then you download it and it converts it to Flash. The software itself does not seem to do it but something on the site when uploaded or downloads. I have Versions 8, 9, 10, and ordered 11 of Pinnacle Studio Ultimate which seems to be using a similar ruse in version 11. Upload to Yahoo and it will become Flash. I also have Ulead versions 3, 4 and 5. I purchased Adobe's high dollar system as well trying to find something to make movies and convert to Flash. For small movies that you don't want flash or that you don't mind posting to their website, it is ok, but for longer videos I would recommend going elsewhere. I gave 2 stars because it has some nice features but didn't give more because of the misleading of the Flash feature.
