    Good product, 2008-11-11
    Best value of money.
warns you every time there is a cop with a gun!!
Though it keeps warning you very often which is annoying

Had it for a couple of months and am very happy with it. It has regularly picked up police radars long before I spot them, even behind hills (luckily I live in Florida so not many of those to contend with!). The laser detection is fair also. Compared it alongside a V1 and the difference is barely noticeable - the V1 beeps maybe a half second before the XTR did.

Some minor complaints: It gives out TONS of false alarms, especially when I'm driving around town - OK so it's a fun geeky thing to know when I'm half a mile from an automatic door, but still it drives my SO batty when she's in the car! The VG-2 detector appears to give a lot of false alarms (unless Florida law enforcement really do have them scattered every few miles, which I doubt) but it's disabled by default so no big deal. Finally, I would have liked either to see a separate Ka indicator or have it blink on K band detection instead.

Had a Whistler for years, replaced it with this one. Just as good if not better, why spend more? Do a lot of highway driving and never got a ticket. Gives a good honest warning within a mile or so. Just remember when you drive past a cop, they dont always have their gun on. So dont blame your detector. I really like the blue LED's they warn you visually when your radio is turned up. Overall i would recommend this to anyone on a budget or needing a unit for a second vehicle.

I'd say for the money its a good detector (not much competition in the $40 range). Just watch out for hills, curves, and instant on. Most cheap detectors lack on Ka band (most popular police radar band) also.

The best detector for the money in my opinion is the BEL v940 Beltronics V940 Vector Radar/laser Detector with Text Display and Voice Alerts (Black/Silver). My brother and fiance both have this and love it.

In short: If you want a real RD get a Beltronics, Escort, or Valentine One. Stay away from Cobra, Whistler, or Rocky Mountain Radar!

    Decent radar, 2008-10-06
I rate this radar as a 4 star b/c of the great price for what you get. I recently used the radar for a 1 1/2 hour trip and worked ok. It beeped when a cop stopped someone for speeding on the side road but it didnt beep when there was a cop in the next lane but I believe it was b/c the cop was not lasering any cars but just driving and got off the next exit. Its pretty annoying in the city so I suggest to keep it on city mode II. Also while on the road it did give false alarms but I think the $150 ones would as well b/c its SUPPOSE to detect all lasers and you would visually have to see if its a cop. Hey its better than nothing and saves you $$ on tickets. Better to be safe than sorry (even if its annoying).
