Does exactly what its supposed to do, 2007-01-28 I've been using my n800 for about 2 weeks now and have found it to work extremly well. The main drawback in my opinion is the lack of a slide out keyboard, but I hope to fix that once I purchase the nokia bluetooth keyboard... The on screen keyboard works pretty well, in fact i'm writting this review fom my n800. It is extremely easy to connect to a wireless network and once you save the network settings it connects autonatically when it is within range of the signal. The screen of the device is extremley sharp and readable under direct light. Watching streaming video from youtube is very choppy, somethng I hope they fix in a future update. Battery life is acceptable, i've been able to get about 4 hours of continuous use with wifi on. All in all I am extremley satsifed with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone who doesnt want to carry their laptop everywhere to gain internet access.

Only if you are going to use WIFI, 2007-01-26 Works great with WIFI, but trying to pair it with a sprint power vision phone to access the web doesn't work. They should have tested this with Sprint before they released it. Support is unhelpful. [...]

Fair product...but lacking in critical areas, 2007-01-18 I have owned PDAs and mobile devices since the Newton. I have also been frustrated since that time with lack of capabilities of all these pocket-style PCs.
Only unit that has come close to fulfilling my expectations is Pepper Pad 3...but this isn't a 'pocket' pc...it's a umpc (ultra-mobile pc).
The Nokia N800 is not an umpc...it is merely a pocket pc (pda) running linux. Compare it to Zaurus and diy offerings from [...].
There is ZERO java support built-in...which means many forms of streaming won't work (Sirius Satellite, etc. no applets).
UI is extremely confusing with menus everywhere...definitely not clean.
There are minor touch issues with LCD...calibration doesn't fix this.
Builtin wifi and bluetooth are nice...but wifi doesn't support advanced forms of encyryption required for corporate networks...and bluetooth support is limited to DUN I believe (dial out thru your phone). There is no bt support for keybds, headsets, etc. Note that the wifi signal on N800 is EXTREMELY strong...it picks up signal where my PepperPad3 and other devices won't.
This device is kinda DUMB because it doesn't have built-in 3g access...like many phones do now (hsdpa/umts for gsm). Given it IS PHONE SIZE...it should have phone connectivity.
It doesn't make much sense that I would carry around a phone with 3g and bluetooth PLUS the N800...it only makes sense to carry around the N800 as it is phone-shaped, comes from a phone manuf...and s/just be a dang phone already.
The display is crisp and clear...800x480. Built-in camera is nice...but forget about chatting with anybody who doesn't own an N800. Several friends I asked to download proprietary Nokia video chat for their PC browser refused...we need standards for voip folks! I've heard a skype chat client w/video is coming...this is needed. Given you can't take pictures/etc. there's not a lot to do with phone.
Many of the above issues can be remedied by downloading/building new software (if not now then soon)...however much of this should've come in box.
If you're a linux software developer...you will appreciate Nokia as they DO have extensive developer program with copious how-tos, etc.

Performs as Advertised- Excellent for what it does, 2007-01-15 I was the first person to purchase the Nokia 800 at the Nokia flagship store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The staff was very helpful; they even installed the firmware upgrade that had been released that morning.
The good: the screen is gorgeous. Video playback is smooth without any noticable starts and stops. Setting up wi-fi connections is a snap. The stereo speakers sound fine for as small as the unit is, although they get a bit tinny as the volume approaches maximum. The overall design is excellent; most of the features are intuitive. I have found that I use the touch screen with my fingers the most; I try not to use the stylus at all.
The bad: setting up the connection with my phone for internet access has been cumbersome. I've tried it about 3 times already and have been unable to get it to work. The "camera" only works out of the box as an internet chat cam; it doesn't take pictures or capture video to the SD cards.
Overall, I love this device. I expect it to become even more useful as more programs come out for it. It definitely has a "wow" factor when others see it. I get asked about it every time I take it out . . .
