Not worth the money., 2008-11-17 The setup wizard did not work with Vista, which required me to perform the setup manually. Most often, I need to power cycle the print server before using, otherwise sheets and sheets of garbage characters will be printed rather than the job I sent. I spoke to someone that has the same print server, that when used wired, the print server is much more reliable in its operation.
An impractical overpriced toy, 2008-11-16 I got this device because i had multiple PCs, and laptops used at home. I did not want to power up the PC connected to the printer each time i wanted to print something from another one. However, i found that the software needed to run with the print server to be a bit un-practical. You first need to connect to the print server, then do the printing or the scanning. Also, the scanning software that came with the HP multifunction printer did not work with this print server. I had to use windows TWAIN software to do the scanning. So if you are thinking of getting this device for convenience, i do not think it is a good idea, as it comes with a lot of hassle to use. Buy this only if you have an expensive printer that you need to use, and when you use the printer everyday, not just a couple of time every week. you can add a small amount of money, and buy a new network printer for home use.
Great Print Server, 2008-11-06 My older Linksys print server died after a couple years and I decided to replace it with this one. I also have a Linksys wireless router so I decided to stick with another Linksys product. The setup was very easy installing this on all three (3) computers: a Dell Desktop PC upstairs with Windows XP with the printer, a Gateway laptop with Windows XP, and a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. The printer is a Canon i860 color printer and is not a multifunctional printer (fax, scan, etc.) I had all 3 PCs up and running within an hour without any problem. The CD wizard makes this setup a breeze, really simple...just follow the directions and you'll be up and running in no time. I hope this one lasts longer than 3 years. One thing I did that the directions did not mention was to unistall the old print server software from all the PCs. I'm not sure that makes a difference, but it's always a good idea to uninstall any software that is not needed. The only downside was the price, even though Amazon did have the best price around. Then again, all the print servers I looked at seem to be overpriced. I guess that's the price you pay for wireless and convenience! Overall, a great print server and works perfect with Windows Vista.
Does not work with Vista, 2008-11-01 Wow, what a piece of $#!%.. It's been a long that I have seen not only a poor product, but the support is worse! It loaded on the XP system and I went on to load a laptop running Vista, guess what, error is OS is not supported. FAQ's, and linksys's VIRTUAL CHAT would pull up 15 answers that were useless... Four hours wasted on a product that does not work...I'm sending it back...
It might work, 2008-10-22 Linksys utility can not find my print driver and won't set it up. Spent a long time on the phone with technical support giving personal information (and repeating it several times) just to be transferred to someone who could help me; but not actually. Instead I was placed on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up on TWICE!!!!
Horrible customer service. Poor software. Product never did work, even with tweaking the network and printer settings.
