Great mounting option for security and mobility, 2007-12-01
I bought this for two reasons:
Security - GPS units are a highly prized target for thieves. They can walk down a row of parked cars and see a mount on the windshield or the mark left by the suction cup and assume a GPS is in the glove box. You can move this mount to the floor of the car/truck or glove box in 2 seconds and it leaves no mark. No sign of a GPS unit on the dash/windshield.
Mobility - I can unplug the charger and move it to my wifes car or the motorhome fast. It's the easiest mobile mount there is for a Garmin at this time. I do not need to buy extra mounts for other vehicles. No glue pads on the dash.. It's Great
It's very stable... I drive windy, bumpy, rural roads and it does not move, slide at all. I drive a Jetta with a rounded dash and it does not move!
Excellent Mount, 2007-12-01
Now this is more like it...the suction cup mount that came with my GPS did fine for about a week...then it lost it's suction and the GPS kept falling off the windshield...not something you want to happen with a piece of electronics. This mount is great...it's non-sliding surface holds the GPS firmly to the dash and you can move it anywhere you want it...no muss...no fuss. 5 Stars!
Garmin Friction Mount for Nuvi 600 series, 2007-12-01
Outstanding quality product for the Nuvi 600. My son is using this in his new sports car, an with quick turns and up and down hills, the friction mount doesn't budge.... Holds true to form, and stays in the exact place you put it on the dashboard....
Recommend highly to anyone having a Garmin Nuvi
Very handy for the business traveller, 2007-11-30
I travel, and when I do I often have a rental car and an unfamilar city. This is a great way to mount your little garmin GPS system. Simple, effective and only slightly overpriced it is handy.
I also like it as it breaks down easy and can get your GPS out of view which can be handy so your car isn't broken into and GPS taken. This is not uncommon (having happened already to me once). So its even handy for your own car if you're going somewhere you don't know.
Short form - it's simple and works.
Cons - slightly bulky and heavy but seemingly necessarily so by design.

The suction mount for my Garmin nüvi 660 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator worked perfectly for six weeks, and then never stayed on the winshield again. I was reluctant to try the friction mount because I heard they just floated around on the dashboard.
I finally gave in and bought this mount. I've been using it about 8 weeks and it has not given me an ounce of trouble. It sits on the dash wherever I put it, and has not moved in even the most extreme turns or stops.
My only negative is that the GPS unit comes off the mount whenever I move it. I am afraid that after time the connection may be too loose. But that's just speculation. The real question is, why isn't this the mount that Garmin sells with the unit?
