Great product, but getting worse?, 2007-05-12
I've been using Turbotax for about since 99, and the product has improved continually over that time to the piont where doing taxes is fairly painless. I did notice this year that the ability to "elegantly" handle the sale of ESPP (employee stock participation plan) shares was removed from the deluxe version and now requires you to spend another $30 upgrading to the "premier" version. (It is still possible to enter these in the deluxe version manually, but this is a clear downgrade from prior years.) Hopefully this is not a trend on the part of Intuit.
 Can't Believe I've Been Paying H&R :o, 2007-05-10
Heard that Turbo Tax is fantastic, and after shelling out over $200 to H&R Block last year for a minorly complicated return which basically encompassed sitting in front of one of their independent contractors using Turbo Tax software (or so it seemed) --I took advantage of Amazon's Gold Box deal featuring this software. WHAT A BREEZE! It remains to be seen if the IRS shares in my gushing review of what Turbo Tax could do with my tax returns, but I was a satisfied customer. My returns entailed reporting capital gains from interest, multiple portfolios with stocks/mutual funds, and a recent move to a new state. Turbo Tax never hiccuped. I was suitably impressed, and recommend it.

With doing your taxes being this easy, why would you pay hundreds more for less of a return? I will never go to the CPA again!

Turbo Tax is easy to use, and has similar features year after year. There are additional fees for filing the state tax online and additional fees for filing the federal tax online. The fees are not disclosed upfront, so I printed out the completed forms and mailed it in for over 25 times fewer fees. I would recommend this product to complete your taxes if you need to file the long form.
