    Product was a timesaver, 2008-06-25
I installed XP on my new laptop to replace the supplied Vista. After installing XP, new drivers, and MS Office, I used PC Mover to "move" my files from the old to the new. The process took several hours (70GB of files, apps, etc.) but everything moved and worked correctly including registry entries for shareware I'd purchased.

Just be sure to carefully follow the instructions.

Using this product was a nightmare. I followed the directions exactly moving from an XP computer to a Vista computer. I ended up having to erase and reformat the hard disk of the Vista machine, and having to resinstall all factory loaded software, then copy over my important files. This was time consuming and the product was a BIG disappointment. A better route is to save all important files and copy them over, forgetting the software. New versions are often needed to run on Vista anyway. I wanted to save time but ended up spending WAY more time using this product.

    Most Dangerous Software Ever!, 2008-04-30
Do NOT buy this product (Laplink PC Mover Moving Kit). I tried to move my settings from a Windows 98SE machine to a brand-new Windows XP machine, and it absolutely trashed the new machine. I had to erase and reformat the hard disk and reinstall the operating system with product disks from the manufacturer to get it to work at all. The only possible safe use of this product (and even then I would recommend it only to professionals) is to move settings from one machine to an IDENTICAL machine -- same manufacturer, same model, same operating system.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, 2008-04-03
I realize that my review is not about this product, but I think it is relevant to potential purchasers of Avanquest products. I do not know anything about this particular program, but have had considerable difficulty with Avanquest as detailed below.

I purchased My Ultimate Organizer 7.0 via download and subsequent key.

I am not making this up - the product displayed a message in Serbo-Croatian telling me the key had expired.

Four hours later with Technical Support and the problem is still not resolved (despite erasing the program, reinstalling, trying different keys, searching the Windows Registry, etc). It takes a full hour on hold to get a technical support representative and at the conclusion of the last session, I was told to contact Customer Service for a CD copy in the hopes that that would resolve the issue. Now Customer Service tells me Technical Support must send me the copy, although Technical Support says otherwise. I am out $30 for a program that is at this point, totally useless, and left adrift by Avanquest who has my money and refuses to help me.

I would purchase Avanquest products with extreme caution. If you have a Technical Support issue, you will have to wait a minimum of 60 minutes on hold (no 800 number), and then get fairly substandard service after that.

Best product for the job, 2008-04-01
Forty-four applications on the old desktop. Six logical drives. Tons of serial numbers. Backed up the old machine using Acronis True Image. Built the new machine with matching drives (new ones were larger) using Acronis Disk Director. Migrated from XP Pro to XP Home (Dell doesn't offer XP Pro on new machines today). Swapped from FAT32 to NTDS. This is a one-way street, by the way.
Followed the directions carefully. Said a couple Hail Marys and hit Start.
The system shortly announced this would take hours and hours...and it did. Took my bride out to an evening dinner party. Arrived home at 11 PM to find that the process was complete.
Spent another day checking each application on the new machine for proper execution. One didn't make it. Two small apps never appeared. Fixed those and reloaded the larger one (Adobe Photoshop Elements). Serial numbers were never a problem.
Laplink has been in the business a long time and has created a fine product here.
