    Reliable Killer App, 2008-05-28
Our law office is using Parallels Desktop on three iMac desktop computers running XP Pro and Office XP and we have never had any problems, shifting back and forth between Mac OS 10.4 and XP to run the best programs for each operating system. Most work is now done on the Mac side, but some of our contacts are still in Outlook and the old emails and client archives are still on the Windows partition. We also use a billing program called TimeSlips that only runs in XP. The program icons, whether Mac or Windows, all appear in the Mac dock at the bottom of the display and are activated with a single click. Files that come in via email or on flash drive simply call up the program they need and it opens into a Mac window or a Windows one as required. The interface is clear and there is no particular learning curve to get going. The program handles installation of Windows automatically, and the longest part of the install is the downloading of all the Windows updates via the internet. Once that is done, maintenance of Windows is easy through the automatic update function. The only issue that required any assistance from manufacturer's support was setting up our network printers. This was solved by downloading and installing Bonjour for Windows from the Apple website, which is a slightly different solution than that provided in the Parallels manual. But all the Macs can now print to a choice of laser printers on the ethernet, as well as to and from the main copier for scans (this required a Postscript card for the copier). Manufacturer's support was fast and courteous. My assistant and associate attorneys are productive and enjoying their Macs and I have no more windows tech support bills to pay. Enthusiastically recommended!

Do NOT buy this here!, 2008-05-27
Buying this product from Amazon is a waste of time! I'm giving this product a "1" because what you buy here is likely to be useless and frustrating. The version on the disk will probably not work, especially if you are using Leopard. The software does not update during install, so if you do not know that you need a newer version, you may spend a lot of time setting up something that will not function later. If you contact Parallels phone support, you will find that they will want to charge you $29.00 for support. Email contact will result in a reply with a link to a download and no further explanation. For all the trouble, you may as well just download the program from the Parallels site and then buy a key. Personally, I found the support so bad, I wouldn't buy anything from this company. There are other programs that will accomplish the same task with less hassle.

I just noticed that VMWare has a higher customer rating. I'm going to buy that, and you should, too.

Great with Widows, not so hot for Linux, 2008-05-25
I have a 17" MacBook Pro, but I need Windows XP Pro for some work tasks. Parallels gives me access to what I need with extreme simplicity. All my Windows programs have worked better running Parallels on OS X Leopard than they did on native XP. It also comes with a pretty good printed manual. The only downside to Parallels is if you want to install Linux. According to the manual, Ubuntu Linux is supported, but despite the ease of installing it, as of now, I've been unable to get it to run, that's why it's a 3 star program instead of 5.

The best of both worlds!, 2008-05-22
With Parallels installed on my Mac, I can run any program I want! Soo, I have all the great features of a Mac, but when I need to run a program that is only PC based, I now can with Parallels.

    Incredible, 2008-05-21
I just can't understand how this program works! Both operating systems work together at the same time. I can work with both Windows and Mac programs on the same desktop! I can easily copy data from a program in one system and use it in a program from the other one. Both the Windows and Mac program bars are at the bottom of the screen. It's truly amazing!
The only draw back of the system is that when the Parallels program is active, it does slow down my operating system significantly. Not so much that I can't work, but it's noticeable. Still, it's nowhere near the difference in time it would take to restart my computer each time to switch operating systems. I wouldn't recommend the program to use with anything less than a 2GHz processor.
