A decent upgrade from 10.4, 2007-11-06 I upgraded my Intel-based Macbook from 10.4. The upgrade took about 75 minutes. Besides all the slick new features that are being focused on, I am most happy with the changes to the networking. Now I can more easily browse and attach to shares on my mixed Windows/Mac home network. The only negative I've encountered is that sleep mode doesn't usually work, whereas in 10.4 it was flawless. When I open the screen, half the time I never get the screen back, just the mouse cursor, causing me to force the machine off. Juniper VPN software also doesn't work on this release, but this is really Juniper's issue on catching up with this version.

Wait before buying!, 2007-11-06 I purchased this software "upgrade" on an impulse, because I happened to be in a local computer store on the evening when it was introduced. It was a huge mistake! My problems started that night, when I encountered the now infamous "blue screen."
Fortunately, I have a local Apple Store within a short driving distance from my home. Otherwise, I would have been in serious trouble. While the online documentation is much better than the totally inadequate instructions that are in the package, it still is not adequate.
Once I had the OS running, I found that much of my other software was not working. Thunderbird, in particular, required a few separate totally new installations before I got it working acceptably. (It is still quite buggy.) Google Earth also needed to be totally reinstalled from scratch. There are a few other programs that I don't use as much which may also need to eventually be reinstalled.
With regard to the OS itself, I have not yet had a chance to really experiment with any of the new features. I do passionately agree with several other critics who have stated that the translucent menus are a serious problem. On the whole, my best advise is to wait before buying or installing this software.

Yes and No., 2007-11-05 Do I reccommend this product? Yes and No. Many people buy this for the eye candy features, such as the iChat special effects. But does it work on a PowerPc Mac? Nope. Not at all. You can keep dreaming, because after contacting Apple, I didn't get the impression that these features will EVER work on a PowerPc. There are many advertised features that simply do not exist on my iMac because it's not an Intel based system. However, what DOES work is pretty darn nice. I'll keep playing around with the programs to discover what else I can cross off my new features list.

Very nice upgrade to a venerable operating system!, 2007-11-05 I'll make this short and sweet. My Leopard installation took about four hours to complete, but was nearly painless. I didn't have any of the problems that some others have reported (but I also took precautionary steps to ensure that I had a full backup and a clean file system before installing Leopard). My machine is just humming along as usual.
I'm running a 2.5 year-old G5 iMac, and Leopard has definitely provided some new life to this machine -- so much so that I'm going to hold off on purchasing a new iMac for perhaps another year. Many of the functions/features are well-conceived and logical, and I have no problems at all with the eye candy (makes the computing experience fun).
The only issues I have had with the install is that two of the applications I regularly use (Cocktail and Disk Warrior) are not compatible with 10.5, and based upon recommendations from their authors, I discontinued their use. This is a frustration with any new operating system and is not an exclusive complaint about Leopard or Apple.
Just purchased my new iMac keyboard and a bluetooth mouse, and now I should be good to go for another 12 months!

Please Prepare for the upgrade, 2007-11-05 I think the upgrade will do well for most up-graders as long as they do the necessary maintenance on their older system prior to installing Leopard. I have always found the information posted on the website www.macfixit.com to be my best friend when it comes to Mac system problems. And I say check them out before you install Leopard. I did and my install was great in under 40 mins. I'm giving the review 5 stars because it's great but I so far haven't seen it's full drawbacks, as yet the finder bothers me. Thank you.
