Great Wars Almighty , 2008-08-20 The game allows you to take control of the entire civilization not just the battles. There is a learning curve with fighting but overall a great game with hours...days...weeks of entertainment
Addicted, 2008-06-29 OK, I have played this game every night for the last three weeks and can not put it down. Don't bother with any of the guide books, go to the Total War website and read each of the walk thru-s for each family, they are very very helpful. Get this game, you will not regret it (or you may after forgetting what time it is three weeks in a row at 2 am!)

A leap forward in RTS Games, 2008-03-10 Rome: Total War is a landmark advancement in RTS games. The compelling battles and intricate stategy engine ensure that this game is guaranteed value. It is very difficult to go back to early 3D RTS games such as AOE2 after playing a game like this. Rome immerses you in battles, such that you feel you are actually there and fighting for your life. Rome is not without its flaws but overall this is a truly impressive game and deserves the accolade as "the very definition of an epic strategy game".

Like civilization with battles, 2007-11-30 I didn't have trouble installing the game and I can run it at max colors and resolution without issues. Games load relatively fast and the program exits fast.
The game reminds me of civilization with a twist. Battles are fought on a battlefield instead of automatically resolving (You can optionally automatically resolve battles). The campaigns are very long and I don't have a complete grasp of the politics involved.
It's fun, but not the most fun I've ever had playing a game.
