Many features have been removed, 2005-02-19 As of this year Turbo Tax Basic no longer supports employee stock plans, stock options, or simple schedule C functions. In order to get these you must buy the $69 Premier version. Worse yet, if you are a long time user of the basic version and don't bother checking the product comparison, you don't realize this until you have purchased and installed it. Very disappointing!!!!

IT WORKS GREAT, 2005-02-14 I've used Turbotax since before Clipsoft merged with Intuit. This has been the best year yet and I thought the first one was great. Why pay a CPA? This is easy.

TurboTax still works, 2005-02-11 Despite the negative reviews, I decided to buy TurboTax anyway. I can't say for those of you using XP, but installing under Win98 was no problem. Despite saying it couldn't find my broadband connection the first time, hitting retry did the trick when doing the software updates. As to the comment of c-dilla being installed, didn't find it on my computer. As for other comments about spyware, didn't find that either.
TurboTax comes up in interview mode but this year they've added a customize feature so it will only deal with tax issues dealing to your situation or you can still go through the whole interview. I had no problems using it. I was able to print and save my return to pdf just like last year. If you're looking for something simple, TurboTax does it. As for the question of being able to import prior TurboTax files, it's always been able to do the prior year but I've yet to see that it does anything beyond that.
It did install their 'It's Deductible' software for me only to click it and it says 'buy it'. That's annoying. Also asking me to buy other services/products is a pain but that's marketing for you. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars - annoying marketing and eating my disk space with software I won't use.

Not impressed., 2005-02-10 I used TurboTax Basic for 2004. Not impressed based on the following: 1. Cost: The cost to purchase federal software ($20.), Two states ($50) and e-file federal and one state totals $85.00 after rebate. I feel that is excessive. Not much less than would be charged at a tax preparer. 2. Time: Took about 30 minutes to install software, then about 1 1/2 hours to download updates and state using dial up connection. Took me about 3 hours to complete the interview process and input data. Total time: 5 hours. 3. Interview process: The interview process is OK for federal, but is sorely lacking in information and explanations regarding the state portions. Left me with and unsure feeling. 4. Accuracy: There appears to be an error in the way TurboTax calculates my state income tax. It does not appear to enter my city earnings tax on the appropriate line, resulting in my state income tax calculations being wrong. 5. Service & Support: I reported the above observation to TurboTax support and asked for help / explanation. One week has passed, and I am still waiting on a reply. Last year I used a TurboTax competitor calledTaxAct online, and was very satisfied. This year however, I could not get TaxAct to work with my mac OS 9 and browsers. [...]

This software made my day!, 2005-02-07 I used Turbo tax last year as well and paid for the state last year too. All of the info was stored on my computer so I didn't have to re-enter hardly anything! And yes, I even have mortgage deductions! Even though the state is usually quite easy without using turbo tax I always have to dig out forms from the previous year, but since I had both state and federal on my computer from last year I didn't have to dig for ANYTHING. Bottom line is it took me 45 minutes TOTAL to do my federal, then download the state and do it. I have a slow printer so that took 20 minutes. VERY HAPPY with Turbo tax!!!!!!!!!!
