Easy to use, easy to learn, 2008-10-23
A very good product for a very good price, compared to prices for other score writing softwares. I use it primarily to copy old and totally scratched up scores, that have been used by lots of folks, and overloaded with remarks and comments.
I am a total novice at score writing and music studies, and while the very first page took me hours to get done, the 2nd one was already a breeze. After doing 5 scores, I hardly need to consult the Help files anymore, it is just like typing. I put on my headset and can hear each note I type into the score. I love this product, it allows me to hear my score played, which is extremely helpful, since I just started to learn music theory and playing an instrument. I learnt the notes by copying scores, I can play back my score and hear how it is supposed to sound (timing, rhythm, etc...). I can also import any midi file and print its score, so that I can then practice any piece I can find.
Very good value for the price!
There are a few minor bugs, such as, sometimes, the program does not "clean up" a measure automatically (e.g.: rests stay put, when they should disappear, or sometimes, the "Help" file won't come up when pressing the button) Nothing major, though, since most of that can be fixed by closing the software and opening it up again. I sure hope that Geniesoft will bring out some patches to fix these little bugs in the near future!

    Cool but Sloppy, 2008-06-03
It's nice off course to be rid of the hazel of hand writing charts for a relatively low price. I'm a drummer, and unless I was willing to buy the big shot programs, this was pretty much my only option.

The designers of this program seem to have been in a hurry. These are some of the features that may give you a headache:

    * It doesn't save many important settings such as auto rests and justify.
    * It lakes a great deal of symbols, such as open string (o) and third repetition
    * You have to manually go over EVERY note if you want to change the note heads on a section.
    * It doesn't always listen when you tell it NOT to auto fix your stuff. The way it calculates rests are terrible. A couple of extra 32 rests than what normally adds up in a bar is not uncommon.
    * LOTS of work arounds

You will spend the first couple of weeks swearing out loud if you buy this, yet eventually when all the work arounds are in place, you can actually create pretty good charts with it.

Lots of fun, Easy to use!!!, 2008-05-28
Score writer 4 is an awesome computer sheet music program! I was throughly suprised just how easy and fun it was. In the first evening that I got it, I picked it up completely. Before, I was sketching out my music by hand and playing each note out on my piano to see how it sounded. It took long hours and was very tedious. Then, I'd have to get the ruler out and try my best note by note to rewrite my messy sketch. Now at the touch of a button you can add notes, groups, articulations, expressions, and so much more. You can also set up your score on a variety of instruments. It also plays your composition back for you perfectly. And it comes out as high quality professional sheet music!! I was never really good at the specifics of writing pieces before thats why this has really helped me. I didn't have the kind of money to purchase those high expensive programs like Overture, but once I saw this I thought I'd give it a try. I was so pleased by it that I'd rather spend my time and money on this easy program, than have to spend hours reading a manual learning how to use a higher program. It really has everything you need to put in a composition. If you have any worries about it I guarantee the minute you try it they will all disappear! I would highly recommend it to anyone who just wants to throw the cd in and be jump started on their way to making a masterpiece.

Best Entry Level Score Writing Software Available, 2008-04-26
I have consistently used this product since version 1.0 (when Cakewalk made the software). I have also tried other score writing software in the market just to see if they compare. They don't.
The reason for my overwhelming preference of this software is the way it allows note entry. The notes I enter stay exactly how I enter them. The software does not try to outsmart me and change my formatting preferences on the fly. It also allows me to add ties the way I want.
I grew up on notating on paper in college. so, I have a certain way I like things to look. Score Writer is the only product I have seen that allows me to control how the notes are arranged.
Also, version 4 allows VST compatibility, which is a great plus for the price point.
I would not use anything else.

    Great software for anyone!, 2005-04-11
Score writer is a great program for all ages. It is an easy way to create and print sheet music. It has lots of features to explore with and can be fun just to doodle with. I have tried other score writing programs but I would pick this one amoung others because of its ease of use.
