    Enjoyable!, 2006-02-15
As a Myst fan, I was understandably fairly excited to play this game, though very concerned it wouldn't work on my sub-par laptop. I've heard of a lot of people having technical problems with this game, but even with a laptop without the required specs I did fine. A tad slow, but fine.

The greatest aspect of this game is probably the details. Birds fly around, water ripples when you touch it, and everything can be tapped and makes an appropriate sound when you do so. This makes the game very immersive, and was a feature SORELY missed in Myst V.

That said, I have to say my second favorite aspect of this game was Yeesha. She was the very picture of a precocious, inquisitive young girl, and quite good in the part. Unfortunately, her brothers were not so charmingly acted, but so it goes. It didn't detract from my gameplay.

The puzzles.....well, I was thankful for the hint system included in the game. I'm a fan of trying to figure things out even if it means I'm stuck for weeks, but there were a couple puzzles I just plain looked up. But this is generally true for most games in the Myst genre, so again- didn't detract significantly from my experience. They at least were not half as contrived as Myst III.

Overall, I felt that this was one of the better Myst games (though my all-time favorite is Riven, pixel-hunting and all). The story was good, the puzzles interesting, and the graphics wonderful. I enjoyed it completely, and was sad to have to finish.

A Myst, Riven, URU fan, Myst IV worked fine on my PC., 2006-02-08
It's sad, Myst IV is not in the Myst mythology at all.

First thing I want to mention, the DVD game installed and ran fine on my PC, and was cheap to buy, but I bought it roughly a year after the release and I have the 1.02 patch. So graphic, sound, controls and installation wise, it's all 100%

Second, I am a Myst world fan, I own and play Myst, RealMyst. Riven, Myst III, Myst IV and URU chronicles, I also own and read all 3 books and I own all the soundtracks, so I am a fan of Myst and Cyan, (Miller's brothers) fine work.

Now as for the review of Myst IV, As mention the Graphics are as good as it gets, amazing, and the sound/music, I would say as good if not better then all the previous games. But the real issue, is the essence, all the Myst games has a playability, puzzles and background story factore that create a masterpiece. This game failed on all 3 of them.

The Game play changed, you can easily find the puzzle and the story, and you can figure the answers easily, but to apply those answer, it's impossible and frustrating. Also, I admire this out of focus background thing, but it's getting annoying when trying to walk around, as you have to "scan" the view to see the details.

The puzzle, what can I say... they included a walk thought in the game, and there is a good reason, you will need it, not to figure out the puzzle, but on how to apply it, and the worst part, even if you cheat right off the bat, and know the answer, to apply those answer in the game, is near impossible, that's not puzzle solving, it's a exercise in frustration, or hell. You know what to do, but you can, the controls are to difficult, you run out of time, or the game is just to picky. Two example : The resonance that was already mentioned many time, and the "monkey" puzzle, require a fast mouse, entering 1/2 to 1/8 inch long sequences of 2 or 3 wheels multiple time (up to 30-40 for the last puzzle) with a time limit. I play "fast games" like Unreal and Quake, but forget it, it's nothing like that, it's micro precision with time constraint, nearly impossible.

And last, the story, as mentioned, the acting is atrocious, and the story line destroy the Myst book and game experience, and they brought back the brother from death, or from the "prison book" to put them in ages, but we as the player, where in a prison book in Myst and Riven, and it's not a age, it's a dark place with nothing to do, so they destroyed the continuity of the story line to create a pathetic excuse of a game.

Avoid like the plague , rent it, use the cheat from the start, and look at the graphics (the only good part).

    So much for Myst, 2006-01-20
My wife and I have been Myst fans from the beginning and were excited about the release of MystIV. However, I had one of those computers and drives that would not open the game once installed. As it happened, about that time I was in the market for a new machine, so I held off on any serious upgrades. Upon recieving my new computer one of my first chores was to try and load Myst IV but with the same results. We, obviously, are no longer fans of Myst or of UBI Software in general and will stay away from both in the future.

Next to Last Myst Game, 2006-01-11
I am an older gamer, and have enjoyed Myst since it's beginning. I even upgraded to experience Riven, I felt disloyal to Myst, but fell in love with Riven, and it remains my favorite, simply for the sheer Beauty of It All. I have not been far with Exile, somehow, it seems not of the series. Myst IV was beautiful and easy to navigate, you can save a game and then go back to all the ages to enjoy them easily and quickly, something not available in the first two games. I am partway through Myst V, so far that is Okay, but it is really Riven and Myst IV that I replay the most, after Myst.
By the way, I use walkthroughs often, I cannot believe that all of you can play these games without Hints!!!!! LOLOL

Gorgeous! My favorite Myst game, 2006-01-06
Revelation was hands down my favorite Myst game in the series. The graphics were stunning, the puzzles challenging. I had no problems getting the game to load, and it played very smoothly (I do have a very new computer though). I did get stuck and refer to a walk-through a few times, but I play because I love exploring the environments. I wish this game never ended, it was sooooo beautiful and fun.
