disapointed, 2006-03-26 Down loading a patch to make the game work is not my idea of fun. Even at that it was a pain in the neck to move forward in the game. Other parts, ie changing colors in the dream is extremely fustrating. These and other problems detracted from the game

True to the Myst tradition. Awesome , 2006-03-13 Absolutely great game, true to the Myst tradition. The puzzles could have been a bit tougher but other than that there is nothing to take away from it.

Visually astounding, but quite frustrating, 2006-03-08 My seven year old son and I have been playing this game for about a month now. To be sure, we've played Myst games before and know that they take time and patience to unravel. The graphics here are wonderful; Cyan and UbiSoft always seem to make the experience more and more real.
But if you've ever gotten turned around in a grocery store or failed to note a "gratuity added for parties of eight or more" notice at the bottom of your restaurant bill, you might well be frustrated with Myst IV...
1. Navigation through the game does not display continuous motion. You click to move ahead and the game fades you to a new location. This might be 10 feet straight forward or 75 feet with a right-hand bend. Sometimes after you go "forward" you turn around 180 degrees and can't find whence you've come. In jungle canopy or dark spaces, one can wander for quite some time without securing a true sense of direction or progress.
2. I've wondered if Columbo or MacGyver was consulted in the design of the puzzles. Some of them require disparate pieces of information to be intuitively connected. The game provides a tool for collecting visuals, but the conceptual gaps are quite wide.
In conclusion, we are indeed enjoying this game. But if it weren't for hints and walkthroughs, we would have shelved it weeks ago.

Myst Revelation, 2006-02-21 I think the Myst games got better and better. It takes a lot of patience and determination and several walkthroughs, but it is well worth it. I wish they didn't have to end the series.

This is what I was waiting for!, 2006-02-17 o.K. yeah so they kinda used creativity to give the boys a place to learn a lesson. Still,I throughly enjoyed this game. It's right behind the orginal in my Favorites catagory. I have been playing the myst series since it was first released. I never played video games before that and don't play many now. I adored Myst. There has never been nor will there ever be anything to compare to that game. Even as a teenager I was able to complete the game in a few months. With no cheating. I enjoyed Riven even though I thought it was horribly difficult and had it not been for the walkthough I would have quit quite early in the game. Myst 3 redeemed the series, and I enjoyed the whole lessoning concept. I thought that it make it somewhat easier. It kinda tried to spell out some of what you had to do. Uru, well I can forgive mistakes, even one that big, where there was no real reason behind doing anything there. I did think that one was going to be much better then it actually was. I also DESPISED the 3rd person pov and the anamation. that was just stupid. the ages would have been interesting if you could have zoomed in to actually Look at anything. Anything at all... Had it not been for online walkthroughs the only age I could have completed was Kadish's. And Cleft. I did get the Expansions for Uru and Path of the Shell made it almost worth having done anything with Uru but To D'ni I could have done without. that was stupid. Uru made me really despise Yeesha and her illusions of grandure. Myst 4 now there was a game. Yeesha was charming (what happened to THAT???) And at least the puzzles made some sense and I could figure most of them out without any sort of cheat. Yes some were REALLY annoying. (Dream) and that sound waves one in the beginning. And for all of you who had problems with the monkey puzzles *SPOILER ALERT* you should have tried moving the wheels just so far and not timing anything. Like turning it 1 full rotation for the long sound...1/2 turn for short... *spoiler ended* the timer seems to be off in that puzzle. but all in all this was the one of the best games so far. Learning more about the brothers was wonderful and added alot to the overall story in my opinion. The in game camera and journal were terrific additions. Definatly worth the money.
