    Very difficult to configure, 2008-09-17
The documentation is worthless. The configuration utility does not 'see' to device on my network. I eventually was able to get it to join with my existing linksys wireless network in a way that is not covered by the documentation. Stay away from this product unless you are willing to spend some significant time to get it to work. Linksys should be ashamed.

3 HOURS TO SETUP! Buuut - then it works like a charm, 2008-09-17
Like many others have noted, the product does work like a charm, provided you can get it setup correctly. Unlike some other reviewers, I found that using the software on the CD and following instructions actually works - unless you have other difficulties with your wireless set up (like I did) during installation, then installing this product should only take half an hour. If you've got a technical friend - definitely let them handle this one. It's worth it. Now I've got a nice strong signal in my office.

Set up horrendous, but works like a charm, 2008-09-16
We got this to extend the range of our Linksys Wireless router from the back office of a long New Orleans shot-gun house to the front, where my office is. The router set-up had also been horrendous (and for this I lay the blame on Windows Vista because it had previously worked like a charm with my Mac, just plug and play) only to find that we needed this to compete with the many other wireless networks around us. I was skeptical of the instructions, but armed with the pamphlet from the box and a set of instructions from a review here, I gave it a try. Forget about it!

So, a call to the 800 number (and these folk are fabulous and patient beyond belief) and one hour later we got the thing up and running. All in all it was 58-59 minutes of screwing with the PC and 1 minute to verify that the Mac could find the signal.

Given that I have never tried to set this up with a Mac, and my experience with the router and Mac was just peachy and the Vista and the same router just horrid, I am willing to lay the blame mostly on Vista. But I still wasted the best part of 4 hours between the two just setting up a home network and I can't believe that it should be that difficult.

And don't even bother trying to work with the website or materials that come with the product. They are no help at all.

Setup horrible...Great when it is working...too bad not always, 2008-09-15
I first read all the reviews and decided to give it a try myself. Before I begin Amazon is great!

I currently have a Linksys router WRT54G with high gain antennas located on the 2nd floor. I receive service downstairs, but the signal strength is on the low. Once it arrived, I followed a combination of suggestion on the reviews. I turned off my WPA security and proceeded to configure the repeater. I consider myself to be fairly tech savvy, but this process took about 2 hours to get to work. As one of several reviewers noted "it caused great confusion and goes red for no apparent reason and screws up the network". Finally, I got it to worked and the signal strength on my laptop and iPhone downstairs were at full strength. Great I thought!

The problem is that sometimes the laptop would connect through the repeater and sometimes it would bypass the repeater and try to connect directly to the router. Every once in a while, the red light on the repeater would come on and I would re-power the device.

Bottom line...the setup is horrible...please find a tech savvy friend to help and follow a combination of reviewer's suggestions. When it works, it works great! When it doesn't, it is just leaching the electricity from the outlet and sitting there idle.

UPDATE: I gave it a couple of days, but it just did not work all the time. Sometimes full strength and other times it was not doing anything. I return the product to Amazon. They have a simple no hassle return procedure/policy!

Great product! Plugged and Played! , 2008-09-14
The WRE54G arrived on schedule, as promised. Linksys has added a new Ethernet Port, making this product even easier to setup and use. At the fringe of my Wi-Fi network, I simply plugged it into AC power and using the auto-config button, both blue LED's come on and it was ready!! It's been running great! I forget that it's even on the job. All transfer speeds are just as fast, as if using my Wireless Router, directly. When house power goes off, the Range Expander comes right back up automatically when the power comes back on. Extremely satisfied!!
