Less intuitive than Office X, not bad, not great, you gotta have it., 2008-01-25
More bloated and clumsy than the last version, Office 2004 offered little in the way of actual new features, just more gimmicky add-ons that most people will never actually use. Still, it works. You want to work in the real world? You need Word, you need Excel, you need Powerpoint. You don't like it? Tough. You think you'll use TextEdit? What happens when your boss sends you a Word document that you can't open at home? TextEdit won't open every Word document. You get fired. You need a spreadsheet. There's no TextEdit for spreadsheets. You want to try OpenOffice for Mac? It's OK, but do you want to trust your job to some free software you downloaded off the Internet? Again, you get fired. Magic markers and felt cutouts with Elmer's glue might be OK for the science fair in 1971, but for serious presentations in today's business environment, you need Powerpoint. My kids need it for school even! Microsoft lives because you must pay them if you intend to play in the real world.

    Word, 2008-01-18
Just got a Mac and was so worried about converting files from Word. With Parallels and Word for the Mac there is no conversion on my part. It works very nicely. I'm looking forward to the free update which should be very soon.

Yeah, the title for this review sounds like a law firm. Sadly, there's nothing particularly funny about Office 2004. I bought it primarily for Microsoft Word, and have been very frustrated with the program's tendency to crash almost every time I use it. Additionally, there are so many (ahem) "features" that the program has become very difficult to use. Whenever possible, I use Word 5.1, which seemed to hit the sweet spot of usefulness and stability. Word 2004 just isn't stable enough for me to trust major projects to.

    Word for MAC, 2008-01-02
Recently purchased Microsoft Office 2004 Student and Teacher edition to get the Word software for our new MAC. My wife uses the Word software for her manuscripts(she is an author)and it is ten times better and easier to use than Word for a PC. She had used Wordperfect for over 30 years and knew she could not use it on her new MAC and she really disliked Word for her old PC. She is very happy with it and therefore I am very happy with it.

    Good stuff, 2008-01-01
I'm no computer whiz, but while others may miss some features available on other software packages I think the value on the student edition can not be denied.
