    works as advertised, 2008-05-27
Although costing more than a standard modem this unit works as advertised. It offers a 2 way firewall watching both inbound and outbound packets. Most router firewalls are inbound only thus some setup is required for products like steam that need special outbound ports opened. A simple Google search for this modem and steam ports showed me how to fix the problem. The wireless is good not the best but has the latest encryption formats and I get signal thru the house. I have no connection issues to my laptop or playstation 3 using WPA encryption. I have been using this modem combo for about 2 months with no issues except the firewall ports. I do not see closed non standard ports as a problem as I appreciate the better firewall, verses my old router firewall/wireless that only blocked inbound ports. If you have cable buy this modem over renting.

    Easy installation, great performance, 2008-05-20
This is my fist foray into wireless networking and I simply followed the suggestions of other reviewers in regards to being a Comcast customer, called them up with MAC ID and it went through without a glitch and I returned my rental modem the same evening.

Getting to setting up my own secure networking profile, I encountered minor difficulties which were easily remedied by calling Motorola, unlike some of the reviews I saw here, our tech was local (if you catch my drift, which nowadays is rare) and helpful, shared a few tips with me on how to understand the settings under my networking profile.

For ease of use, top of the line security protocols and consistency in signal strength around the home and even on separate floors, my signals never varies lower than 84%-97%. I recommend highly in my humble opinion.

Motorola SURFboard is a winner, 2008-05-09
I recommend this for use with comcast subscribers in our area, it is easy to set up and has a web based administration page that even those with little experience can navigate. I am pleased with my purchase even though it cost a few extra dollars over other cable modems compatible with comcast's system here. Check with your cable system pages to see which modems work with thier system before you purchase.

    No problems with Gateway, 2008-05-03
While I have never had a cable modem, or a router, before, I purchased this one because of the good reviews I had read about it. Even the cable guy was impressed, when he came to hook up my high speed, which I took for a good sign. I have had high speed internet for a couple of weeks, now, and I have had some problems, but they are caused by Cox Cable, not by my Motorola SURFboard. I haven't even had to read the booklet that came with it, because I've had no problems with it.
I'm not a techniphobe, but I don't understand a lot of the new products and features that are available for use anymore, however, I would recommend purchasing this modem, any day.

    Motorola SBG 900, 2008-04-27
Excellent product, great speed and OK to install. replaces both modem and separate router, convenient to use just one item to perform both purposes. I don;t understand why other manufacturers don't do the same and combine products, you cant use one without the other so why not just combine. The SBG 900 is a smart choice to simplify, combine and improve speed and access.
