Marvellous End to A Stupendous Game, 2004-05-28
This continues the story of Hans Voralberg and concludes it satisfactorily.

The graphics are as luscious as in Syberia. The gameplay is as smooth and bug-free. The animation exceeds that in its forebear (who knew that was possible). Cut-scenes: without par. Story: as engaging as ever.

Much is made about the puzzles. The alleged 'easiness' does not bother me. I play these games to relax after doing way too much thinking at my office every day. :-)

I would like you to consider what the complaints about the ending say about the story: that nobody wanted it to end. The ending is completely appropriate and fulfilling. Wanting to go back and 'finish' some things or 'get Kate home' is really just a clamouring for 'MORE MORE MORE'.

I highly recommend that all adventure gamers (and even those who are not) get both Syberia and Syberia 2 and play this wonderful story.

Good graphics, but the gameplay falls apart, 2004-05-26
The first two days I played this game, it was really cool. The graphics are really great. The gameplay is good, and the puzzles were solveable if you were careful and thought about what you were doing. Then, about halfway through the game, things start to fall apart and some crucial items become nearly impossible to find. At this point, you realize that there really aren't many objects and puzzles in this game period, and that you just spend most of your time walking by endless, empty backgrounds. I don't know why they can't do a little more testing on these games or at least spend a little more time thinking of what would make good puzzles to solve.

The best of what's out there in this genre but a few hitches, 2004-05-23
The graphics are spectacular, the scenery lovely. This is an adventure that doesn't hurry. A little mystery, a little magic and a goodbye. If you loved Syberia 1, you will most likely be a fan.

I am writing this for would be gamers to let them know that there ARE a couple of problem areas that don't seem to be written about. Save often of course. There are places in the game (I found two) where if you make the wrong choice -- forgetting to pick up an item or preforming an action which seems logical but is the WRONG action in the game developer's mind -- you CANNOT, no matter what you try get a second chance to rectify your mistake. You must go back to a previously saved game and do the steps in the "correct" order. This appears to be a programing problem and happend to a friend of mine also so does not appear to be system related.

So, if you figure out what you SHOULD have done (or read some hints) and can't get back to where you can preform the action ("no point in doing that", says Kate), just go back to your last game and repeat the steps.

Yes, it's a pain, but the graphics are worth it.

    Great story, great game, 2004-05-10
This is definitely not for those who like "Hack n' slash" or shooter type games. However, if you liked Myst, you'll probably enjoy this one.

It is more of an interactive novel than a game, really. The plot is non-cliche', although they could've done without the side plot of the detective, which I too felt was unrealistic. I mean, come on. In the real world, if you go AWOL from your job without calling in sick, that's generally seen as quitting. The company would probably just have replaced her and not bothered with the detective at all, especially after finding out she was alive via her cell phone.

But still, the main plot was pretty good. I do wish they'd have explained Kate's reasons better though. Yeah, she has a good heart, but even the most kind-hearted souls probably wouldn't follow someone to the ends of the earth without strong motivation. And what exactly was her dream, anyway? To get away from her boss and annoying mother?

I have to say this is the only computer game that ever brought tears to my eyes at the end. I really hope they do a sequel. It could be Syberia III: Return to New York.

    More of the same, 2004-05-09
Let me just say that if you loved the first Syberia, you'll probably like the sequel as well. It continues the storyline, the puzzles are the same kind, and the scenes are absolutely gorgeous.
That said, if I never again have to sit and walk "Kate Walker" back and forth to 3 different people through 8 gazillion scenes to ask exactly the right question in the right order, I won't be very sorry. If they only had some option to quickly get you from one place to another, I wouldn't mind as much, but it takes forever to make Kate trot around from one scene to the next. Then again, the game would be really short without all that running around. I agree with the previous reviewer that this could be combined with the first game- it would be a much better value that way. There were also some inconsistancies that bothered me ***SPOILER WARNING*** why is Kate's boss SO concerned to get her back- she's on the phone with her mother, so her family knows what she's doing. Why was that whole subplot there? Nothing ever happened with it. Why does Kate's cell phone work on a Youkol ark? Why are there giant penguins in the arctic circle? Why is there a primeval fern forest lost in the arctic if the mammoths moved further north to keep cool? And finally, if Hans' health is so awful that his automaton friend had to give his life to save him, why is Kate letting him ride off on a mammoth who presumably is not feeding him, sheltering him, or taking care of his illnes? And what is Kate going to do stranded on a lost primeval island with her youki stuck in a cage? Is that Syberia 3? Kate may just have to stay there.
