I did not use the tone generator function, but it worked great with the included remote for identifying the cables. It supports standard ethernet and coaxial (comes with adapter plugs). The "auto" mechanism to successively test the various wires works well. The tone generator is very effective in figuring out which cable to connect - once you get to other end of it somewhere else in the house (this save you from having to switch to another tone generator). Nice packaging to neatly keep everything together. Very happy with the purchase. Also was a reasonable deal. We were able to use existing wiring and not start for scratch. The previous reviews really helped in the decision to purchase this item. I would suggest if you need to check out the system connections alone or with a patner this is the tool to use.
