 about time a clean-cut act comes along, 2004-02-13
i happen to feel that this artist will become a big star...i don't want him to become edgy or anything else. pop music has too many rotten and sexually-driven acts as it is. if Aiken causes sexual thoughts from girls, so be it...i just don't want to see him jump on the bandwagon of "sex is more important than lyrics" that seems to be in abundance today and he turn into a Justin Timberlake...well, Aiken doesn't have to worry about that happening because Aiken can sing unlike the other person i mentioned. The fact that Aiken can sing scares a lot of people. Admit it. Top-40 rock/pop radio is consumed with 'sound' over content. it's been a LONG time since pop radio had a good singer...Elton John and Billy Joel may be the last ones until Aiken came along. Prior to his arrival, nearly every song coming out of a pop station was dance junk, rap crap, and bands that sound like they just walked out of a garage somewhere...so, it's only natural for people who hate lyrics and simple messages to not like Aiken. His "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is okay, it's not LeAnn Rimes...nobody can out-do her version unless Elvis or Conway Twitty attempted the song before...Aiken's other song, "This Is the Night", is also great. Once again, Aiken represents 'wholesomeness' or someone who's clean-cut...two things that hardly win much favor from the typical rock fan. If i were his manager and producer, i'd steer him away from things that'll harm his career and i'd stay focused on the MUSIC and not what a music critic says...i'd also steer clear of violent songs and ones that'll make him look 'cool' because once a person is 'cool' they start to loose their core audience that any artist NEEDS to remain active. I give this CD single 4 stars because "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is too well known by Simon and Garfunkle to be accepted by a newcomer...

Such a faker with his voice, over-produced uninsteresting schlock.I don't care much for his voice, though he seems to be on pitch and whatnot. But his fakery and cliche hooks and "emotionalistic" pandering to the lowest denominators of taste are almost offensive. But worse than that is the utter simplistic and sophomoric instrumental backing. Such sappy arrangments! Such terrible, cliche-ridden wooden detritus! It's like the music was scored by a really bad evangelical Church band. yuck. This person deserves no career. But on the other hand, I have to give him credit as an artist - he's obviously a really good con-artist, and he';s sucking up money left and right, and jusdging by the rave reviews this schlock artist gets, he's conned a lot of people. But then, sadly, it seems that most people are only interested in the most base and banal of arts. So credit to you Clay - you aren't an artist in terms of sniging, but you are true artist of marketing and the game of the con!

Simply awful. Acceptable voice, but delivery is void of depth, texture, and any emotional connection.

I'm not from Usa and English as you may notice is not my first language. But I think Clay is spectacular. And I like to add: totally universal. Felicitaciones Clay!, sos el primer American Idol interesante por fuera y por dentro. Tu album no te hace justicia pero igualmente merece 5 estrellas por tu talentosÃsima aparición.
