 Great Item!!!, 2006-02-24
Let me preface my review by saying that this item should be a mandatory purchase for anyone who owns a compatible camera!!! With this item you now own not only a video recorder but a full-funtioning digital camera.
We originally bought it for a flash and figured the camera light would be a nice feature just in case we needed it. We actually use the light now as much as we use the flash. The item is extremely light, not very big and is very easy to use. The flash comes on quickly, there is no delay when taking pictures and it recharges quickly. We looked a lot of digital cameras and this flash is actually quicker than a lot of the cameras we looked at (we looked at gigital cameras priced between $100 - $400). When turned on, the camera light comes on automatically when there isn't enough light and it makes videos clearer and brighter.
We haven't run the video light for extended periods of time nor have we used the flash for extended periods of time, so battery drainage hasn't been an issue for us as of yet.
This flash/camera light has proven to be a more than ideal purchase than I could have ever imagined and I would highly recommend purchasing one to anyone who ownes a video camera compatible with this item. I just wish it wouldn't have taken me a year of dark videos and dark pictures to figure out I needed this item.

 Good but expensive!, 2005-09-12
Thanks to amazon's discount offer, I decided to buy this product. It is a great handy companion to my DCR-HC40E. However, taking still photos using this flash is bit slow. It takes few seconds to charge up and delays the preview after clicking. Video light performance is good for short distances.

It is a convienence to own this product because it includes both a flash and a light in one product. Works very well.
