    Rosetta Stone Chinese, 2007-09-17
This product has given me the knowledge of Chinese I have been unable to get in any other venue. In two weeks I can read hundreds of sentences and my vocabulary is much stronger.

Worst of Product Line. Behind the Wheel is Much Better and Cheaper!!, 2007-09-09
As I have stated in other product reviews, Rosetta Stone is clearly overrated but solid.
The problem with the overall approach is that it requires that you spend your learning time in front of a computer, which is where you do everything else. Lot's of competition.
I prefer to do my language learning during my otherwise wasted downtime while I drive. If I study a language while driving, I win because I use otherwise wasted hours. I, like most Americans, spend more time driving than ever before. When I get home, I want to do other essentials.
My favorite car Mandarin Chinese course is Behind the Wheel Chinese 8 CDs. Free up your computer and learn to speak Mandarin Chinese while you drive. Behind the Wheel Chinese (Mandarin), Level 1: Learn to Speak Mandarin Chinese Quickly and Easily! (8 One Hour CDs)

You may be able to get this for free., 2007-08-05
Before you pay a bundle for this product, check your local library. My library cooperative, in Hillsborough County, Florida, owns a licence for the whole shebang, every language and every level. Maybe yours does too: it won't hurt to check. I found it quite by accident in my library's online catalog. I registered by entering my library card number, loading a plugin that was provided, and creating a password. Now I can access it at home online and use any set of lessons I want, for the cost of a library card, which I had anyway. Actually I spent quite a lot of time on the French module, but when I got to Paris I had very little occasion to remark that the children were about to jump off the table. I pretty much agree with the remarks of reviewers who awarded the minimum number of stars. (I plan to cross post this to other language modules.)

If you want to learn Chinese DONT USE THIS! , 2007-07-24
I bought this product and used it for two months. Before the 90 day trial was over I returned it. Here is why:

Overpriced! The software has not been updated since windows 95! I could not run it on my monitor in full screen because it gets all pixelated, and the software did not feel fresh and new, but instead cumbersome and often menus were difficult to understand.

Implementation same for all Languages. The software for Chinese, teaches Chinese as if it was a western language. Chinese is not Latin based for and does not even use an alphabet! Chinese needs to be taught differently then Latin based languages, especially to people who only know a Latin language! This software makes no attempt to adapt its approach for the Chinese language. Since Chinese characters give no indication on how they are pronounced, it is very hard to learn how to speak, write and read Chinese.

You won't learn to write chinese! Chinese Characters require practice to write. Lots of repetition is required to master the language. Rosseta Stones lets you type in the characters via ping yin, (English pronunciations) but there is no way to learn how to write the characters!

Overall I consider Rosseta Stone an overpriced waste of time!

    software doesn't always run., 2007-07-13
This software includes some kind of wierd copy protection which prevents it from running on my nice new dell laptop. It only runs on my little old laptop which is slow and annoying, so it hasn't been very useful. The few times I did try it, it was confusing. Immersion is one thing, but immersion in a tonal language with instructions in Chinese isn't so helpful.
