    Great Gaming Mag, 2003-08-07
EGM has satisfied me for over two years. It's a great magazine filled with reviews, letters, previews, and much more every month. The people behind the magazine are very well informed in the gaming industry and never let you down. The only flaw of this magazine is that covers most gaming systems, so if you just want to read about stuff from one console, you'll only have about 30 pages to read (which are riddled with ads). This magazine is great if you want to hear about everything happening in the gaming industry, but if you have only one system, I would recommend XBM, PSM, or NP.

Fallen flat on it's face, 2003-08-03
There is so much wrong with the mag now and so many reasons why it's inferior than 2-5 years ago 1000 words couldn't do it justice. When EGM redesigned it's mag, I got a glimmer of hope, thinking they might try to get back to their roots. Nope instead of coming up with their own original design, they go ahead and copy the design of retailers EB's GMR. Somehow, I realized, the magazine has managed to sink even lower than before...lets get a list going of problems:

...my current biggest pet peeve...always use space excuses to justify tiny reviews for certain games, then they go on and dedicate FIVE PAGES to cell phone games. All those pages where quality console game review space is wasted. Secondly, they have more pics then text in half of their reviews which is useless as that is what the previews section is for.

    - the reviews have been biased for a while now as mentioned before...games like moto gp 2 and advance wars 2 getting bashed for being the same, while games like madded 2004 get nothing but praise even though they state you can stick with the 2003 version. None of the reviewers know anything at all about the real life versions of sports games there reviewing either. They also waste plenty of space mentioning somebody elses review, using it as a personal blabber channel...and pointless comparisions to other games in the genre or prequels. In short, if you want to know if you want to buy a game or not, read elsewhere.

    - Like reviews, they have 3 times the staff and yet they are unable to cover games anymore for previews. It really is quite ridicolous seeing the N64, DC, and PS1 gen had a comparable number of titles released. Again useless 5 sentence write-off's are getting more common. The editorial has shrunk to 1/6 of the page....and game over has been butchred as well. The letters section is filled with repetitive questions/stupidity instead of thought prevoking issues.
    - The visuals are the worst I remember...plain ugly.
    - Even if you subscribe, you still have to remove 10 loose papers when you get your mag.

In the end, with the internet slowly dimming the light of print media, you'd think they'd get more aggresive and improve there act. Far from it, in fact they are turning away people. Rarely have I read an EGM from this year for more than 2-3 days on and off. Back in the day they'd last you the whole month because they weren't filled with BS. In fact I'd say they are on par with gamepro, and game informer is ahead of them in every aspect besides the fact that game informer get's paid off for a few reviews every month.

    It Has Everything, 2003-08-01
First, EGM is the best magazine out there. The reviews and letters are the best things it has to offer. The letters are great and the editors like to joke around sometimes when they reply. And they only let the best letters in, not some stupid don't-know-nothin-about-video-games letter. Then, the reviews. The best of the best-well thought out and tell it like it is style. They have three editors reviewing it and they all have different opinions. I have a gamecube and it gives gamecube props wher they are due. Unlike ummmmm Gamepro. But, Egm can just give up the codes and all that because GP just sweeps them off their feet in that category. One more thing. The cover stories are terrifc in EGM. I was first drawn in by it's Gamecube vs. XBOX story. They gave lots and lots of details about the systems and they told the truth. I'm not mad the XBOX won, all I care about is that they told it like it is. Period. All the cover stories have been great since I first read it. From the triforce stories to Castlevania to Sonic Heroes all were great.

Overall EGM is five times better than Nintendo Power. Three times better than GamePro. And two times better than Game Informer. Best video game magazine.....ever!

Not As Bad As The Rest, 2003-07-26
I've been looking long and hard for a very good video game magazine. I never found it.

I settled on EGM simply because it's the best of the heap.

The reviews are okay. The stories range anywhere boring to acceptable. Also their are no PC game reviews here, so if that's what you want, don't bother looking here.

The major problem with these magazines is all the news is so outdated by the time it publishes and hits the news stand. I wish someone would make a weekly game magazine, but I suppose it's just a pipe dream.

If you need to have a video game magazine, choose this one. Otherwise try .... or another gaming website for more current information, for free no less!

A superb video game magazine, 2003-05-30
Electronic Gaming Monthly is one of the best gaming magazines(if not the best which it probably is...)out there. If you need info on a game, its all here. They have great preview and review sections, and EGM isn't afraid to tell it how it is in the gaming world(example:'Gamecube isn't doing well right now which is due to a lack of good titles avaible at this time').EGM also has a great sense of humor, but they can be serious, too. The magazine has a ton of info in it with some great cheat codes and tricks. The letter section is really good too because they only print interesting and well written letters unlike some other magazines out there like Game Informer and GameNow.EGM also recently had a redesign, and it looks spectacular. So subscribe to this magazine. You won't regret it if you are a fan of video games.
