Expansive deep sequel, arguably better than the first, 2003-03-03
I got the demo for the Lord Bafford's Mansion level of Thief: The Dark Project on a demo disc i got free at CompUSA, and after that, I was hooked. Both games in the series are intriguing, scary, and have great story lines.
The game also has an element that I'm not sure the developers had in mind: comedy. The game has some of the funniest voices and one-liners I've ever heard in a PC game, and i'm not sure if they did it intentionally. In the Lord Bafford demo, I knocked out this guy and rang an alarm bell near the end of the level, and this other guard comes in with a REALLY RASPY VOICE and asks, "Are you alright?" When getting no response several seconds later, he says "No, no, of course you're not alright. Sorry!" I couldn't stop laughing. It was just the way he said it.
There are many other funny ones, like this one guard who swung his sword at me yelling, "KNOCK YOUR TEETH OUT!" and the mechanist who yells "AHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" when he sees me (that was actually really scary too, but funny), but discover the rest for yourself. An awesome game. An awesome series. Have fun.

    Atmosphere, 2003-01-08
Thief 2 seems a little less convoluted than the first game. There were some really long and arduous levels in the that one!
The same stealth and tension remains in 2 and the graphics are O.K. but in all seriousness not that much different from the first.
The different levels are varied and beautifully scripted. One time you may be required to steal certain items from a Lord the next, simply follow a guard through the streets without being detected. The whole atmosphere is one of tension and fear. You may enter into a room where guests chat and pass comments about characters you are after. Thief 2 is an example of how computer games are pushing the standards of gaming and story lines. It's not for Serious Sam fans, but it is for lovers of beautiful game design and carefully crafted atmosphere.

One of the best games ever, 2002-12-01
This game is one of the greatest games ever. There's nothing better than sneaking into a castle and robbing everyone. Though I do admit that I have only played the demo, besides it has to be good if even the demo makes you love the game. The game can totely freak you out though,I screamed when I was hideing behind a door and the gaurd stuck his head through the the door and I had to beat him in the head with a club, though being able to stick your head through the door is a bug it's a useful bug, because you can do it to.Once I even battled a drunk gaurd. It's great for kids to,I mean I'd know I'm 11.
