Nice, 2002-11-04 NICE! NICEEE! this is the ultimate death match and I hope they make quake 4 sooner than later.....it ran fine on my 500mhz MAC!
quake3 for mac in brazil, 2002-03-03 how i can buy this game "quake3 mac3" ?
Pretty Fun, I Prefer UT, 2001-10-10 Quake 3 Arena has fun deathmatch-style gameplay, but the Quake 3 engine is really quite terrible. The graphics quality is far from stunning (older games like the original Unreal look far better, even when Quake 3 has the settings all the way up). Quake 3 also has a slow engine. Even with the settings turned all the way down to help performance, framerates (specifically with smoke, but also in general) are dismal on lower-end computers, and not really all that high on the high-end ones. I should also mention that Quake 3 has netcode that can be unplayable even on broadband (bullets hitting a few seconds after firing, etc). Fun gameplay is about all that this game has going for it, but if you really want a good deathmatch and graphics aren't the main concern, go get Quake1 and QuakeWorld -- even a modem user can generally play that online without too much lag.EDIT: I've seen some amazing graphics in recent games using the Quake3 engine. It must have just been poorly implemented in the original game.
kicks butt, 2001-08-16 Cool game. Love the Mods, havn't done much playing with it on X yet, need to get the update I guess. I gave it 4 starrs instead of 5 because I play more UT mods... ( I guess they're more Mac friendly)
Great for OS X, 2001-08-14 If you've read my Unreal Tournament review, you know that I REALLY love UT. However, I finally got a reason to buy Quake III Arena, it runs on OS X. BEAUTIFULLY. It is still more cartoony than UT, and is harder to control (It goes WAY too fast to be believed) but it runs on OS X. even on my little iMac. You just have to download the newest version after you install the CD. And BANG your gamin'. I originally would only give this game 3 stars, but with the OS X compatibility came an extra.Necris
