Customer Reviews:
ActionTec MegaPlug Wireless Network Extender, 2008-11-11 I purchased this product because my service provider (Verizon FIOS) provided a ActionTec router as part the service. I do not believe it will work with other (non-ActionTec routers).
Warning! You will need a plug adapter as well! I ordered the network extender (standalone) and then figured out I would need the plug adapter as well. So there are three pieces of hardware in my home "infrastructure": 1) ActionTec router (provided to me by Verizon) 2) ActionTec plug adapter 3) ActionTec MP wireless extender
That said, it worked out of the box with no configuration required, just plugged it into a wall outlet and it worked. Two things: 1) I have since learned that it worked because my wall outlet was serviced by the same row of circuit breakers (in my breaker-box) as the router. If your home has two rows of circuit breakers, or two breaker boxes (some do), the signal (traveling through the wires) will nor cross breaker rows, or breaker boxes. 2) The extender initally sets up a seperate wireless network: seperate SSID and un-secured.
I use WPA security, so I took the extra step to add WPA security. To do this, you have to have the router configuration CD that came with the router (not the one shipped with the extender). This may be available as a download it you have lost the CD that came with the router - not sure.
Once I found the original router CD, setting up security was very simple. The router detected the extender and allowed me to set up WPA security in a couple of easy steps.
I very highly recommend this to anyone who already has, or is getting, and ActionTec router.
