Setting File extension
Settings file types category is similar to configuration file types category (generally used to configure the initial settings for computer applications). Settings file types category often contains file types with user modifications,user data or project specific settings, and options. Configuration files are mostly generated with program installation and are important for the program functionality. If the configuration file is broken, the application often can't run. Settings file contain less important settings for applications and if it doesn't exist or its broken, the application runs normally, but in its default mode. Settings file is often a plain text file and in this case it can be easily edited by any text editor (Notepad, Notepad++).
Special settings or custom user files are also themes or skins. A theme or skin file is a set of components that change graphical look of the application or the desktop of the operating system.
