PowerISO Direct-Access-Archive - DAA CD/DVD image with supports for many special features including compression, password protection and multiple volumes splitting.
DAA file is a format for an CD/DVD image file (ISO image), which supports some advanced features, such as compression, password protection, and splitting to multiple volumes (similar to .RAR and other compression formats).
Direct Access Archive, or DAA file, is a proprietary file format for disk image files which supports advanced features such as compression, password protection, and splitting to multiple volumes. It can be handled directly just like other formats, such as an ISO image and BIN, but is currently only usable by PowerISO software. Popular disk image mounting programs such as Alcohol 120% and DAEMON Tools currently do not support the mounting of DAA images.
Currently there is no information about the format available in order to program third party implementation to read or write DAA format. Binary-only applications for Windows & Linux (limited version) are available from PowerISO.
Advantages of DAA file format:
- Can be mounted directly like an ISO or BIN file
- Allows for compression saving space and making it easier to download
- Can be password protected
- Can be split into multiple smaller files
Disadvantages of DAA file format:
- Can only be mounted with PowerISO (Windows only)
- As a proprietary format, it cannot be read by any free application (e.g. AcetoneISO uses PowerISO binary-only application to achieve conversion of DAA)
How to open DAA files:
The DAA PowerISO Direct-Access-Archive file is the native format for utility, that is called PowerISO. The PowerISO Direct-Access-Archive file format is supported only by PowerISO. PowerISO is only for Microsoft Windows. For other platforms such as Linux or MAC OS X, must be DAA PowerISO Direct-Access-Archive file converted to another wildly supported disk image format such as ISO image or NRG NERO image.
How to convert file with extension DAA:
If you want create another ISO image file type, the solution is to extract files from .daa image file and than use another ISO image creating tools.
There is also available free tool called DAA2ISO - program for converting the DAA files (Direct Access Archive, used by PowerISO) to ISO, supports multipart files too. On Windows the tool works from both command-line and GUI.
The PowerISO supports other disk image formats such as BIN/CUE, UIF, DMG, MDF/MDS, ASHDISC, BWI/B5I, LCD, IMG, CDI, CIF, P01, PDI, NRG, NCD, PXI, GI, FCD, VCD, C2D, BIF and etc. PowerISO can convert DAA PowerISO Direct-Access-Archive file into one of these disk formats. Also it can burn this disk images formats on CD/DVD medium.
